Floral Inspiration

For any of you who are looking for some floral inspiration, its ‘Roses fortnight’ at Interflora from 19th July through to 1st August.

Some of the most common beliefs and Rose meanings are as follows:

•  White Roses – represent purity and innocence

•  Red Roses – represent passion and love

•  Yellow Roses – represent friendship and jealousy

•  Pink Roses – perfect happiness

•  Orange Roses – fascination

• Coral Roses – desire

See the full roses collection here.

I had to share this as there are some beautiful bouquets!!!

Personalised Favours...

Following on from the previous ‘personalise it’ post, here are our wedding favours for Cyprus. Although not strictly DIY (!) it’s an inexpensive way to make favours etc that little bit more personal! The fans were from eBay (which I’m sure will come in handy!) and I purchased the labels separately to stick onto the fans. The suitcase tins were from Kate Aspen, just need to decide what to fill these with as they are bigger than expected! I’m thinking maybe some mini rolls of love heart sweets and bubbles for the kids…

Personalise it!

As well as adding the personal touch by making lots of my wedding bits and bobs, we’ve also personalised little things here and there such as stickers for our favours, stickers for the sweetie pots (which I will add shortly). There are lots of lovely ways to personalise your wedding that luckily, don’t have to cost the earth!!

Here are some ideas:

1. Serviettes
2. Miniatures (great idea for the hen night!!!)
3. Balloons
4. Wedding chocolates….may have to have these for the sweetie bar!!!
5. Ribbon – lovely for decoration, favors etc
6. Heart bottle labels
7. Cake boxes
8. Charm bracelet with personalised pendent (would make a lovely bridesmaid gift)

There are of course, lots of DIY ways to personalise your wedding. Why not try…

•  Personalised bunting – bunting is very easy to make. Once you’ve made the bunting, make a template for a
letter per flag, cut out some material to stick onto flags with fabric glue and hey presto!
•  As I mentioned before, printed stickers that can be used for all sorts such as sweetie bar, favours,
invitations, thank you cards etc etc
•  Children’s activity books (see previous post)
•  Banners – (see template post) lots of websites offer free downloadable templates
•  Personalised tags for favours, decorations etc

DIY Make-up

If like me, you’re doing your own make up for your big day (I just could not justify the cost of getting it done professionally!) then here are a few tips that may help you along the way:

•  Start practicing a few weeks before the wedding to experiment with colours and to make sure that you feel confident on how you want it on the day

•  Look through some magazines to get an idea of what kind of look you want to achieve

•  A good base is the key and always starts with primer! Light formulas of base are better as you don't want your makeup melting in the sun.

•  Having the right brushes is another important part of doing your own bridal makeup – large brush for blusher, angled brush for eye make up and a soft blending brush

•  Waterproof mascara is a MUST!!

•  To avoid shine, if you are applying a highlighter then stick to just adding it to the brow bones, cheek bones and a dot in the middle of your lips – too much won’t look great on your pics!

•  Visit a few make up counters for some advice and free samples and find what works best for you (you could go for a free make over on the day of the wedding but it could be risky if you’re not happy with the result!)

•  To apply eye shadow, use three colours - light, medium and dark(er). The light shade goes on the lid from lash to brow line. The medium shadow goes in the crease or just above the crease. And the darkest shade goes on the outside corner of the eye – light neutrals, pinks and bronzes will work well for a natural look

•  False eyelashes can look great!! (not the drag queen type ones mind!) these also require some practice but will be worth it

•  Don't forget that your best beauty feature on your wedding day is to... SMILE!

Free Template Downloads!!

After deciding to put ‘love’ quotes on jam jar labels for some of the centrepieces (which I will post on here as soon as all of the flowers arrive to fill the jam jars!) I spent ages trawling the internet for some suitable tag templates! In doing so I stumbled across lots of sites offering free template downloads. Great for any DIY bride!! Here are a few of the best:

There are some wonderful designs and downloads on the Nonpareil Mag website…
